PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the backs on the Plymouth State University football team was honored by the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Monday for his standout performance in PSU’s season-opening game last Saturday vs. Mount Ida.
Sophomore John DeMarco (Milford, N.H.) was named to the NEFC Weekly Honor Roll, the first Panther this season to earn weekly NEFC honors. A 6-1, 210-pounder, DeMarco rushed for 100 yards on 18 attempts (5.6 yards per carry) in a 19-14 setback to the Mustangs.
DeMarco (left) is listed on the PSU depth chart as the back-up quarterback, but rushed out of the backfield at Mount Ida. He was a fullback for PSU last year when he led the team in rushing (106 carries, 415 yards, 3.9 avg., 5 TDs) and was the team’s second-leading receiver (22 catches, 215 yards, 1 TD).
The Panthers, who have returned to the NEFC in 2006, look for their first win of the season this Saturday (Sept. 16) at Coast Guard (1:00 p.m.)
