PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the goalies on the Plymouth State University ice hockey team was honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Conference Tuesday for his performance in the Panther net last week.
Freshman Trevor Cherry (Greenland, N.H.) was named ECAC Northeast Ice Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week. He has been one of the three goalies that have spearheaded the Panthers to a five-game winning streak.
|A 6’0”, 165-pound freshman, Cherry stopped 36 of the 37 shots he faced (.973) last Thursday night, leading PSU to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Nichols. Cherry held the Bison at bay to improve his season record to 2-1, making at least 10 saves in all three periods and keeping Nichols off the board on 10 power play attempts. It was the only appearance of the week for Cherry, who has a 2-1 record on the season with a 3.00 goals against average and a .901 saves percentage.|
The Panthers, who have improved to 6-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Northeast Conference, look to extend their streak Wednesday (Jan. 21) in a conference match-up at Southern New Hampshire University (7:30 p.m.) before returning home to host Assumption Saturday at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (6:00 p.m.).
