PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A pair of Plymouth State University basketball players were recognized by the Little East Conference Monday for their performances in season-opening tournaments over the weekend.
Junior forward Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named to the LEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll, and freshman forward Heather Thomas (Merrimack, N.H.) was placed on the LEC Women’s Hoop Weekly Honor Roll. Both players earned All-Tournament recognition in last weekend’s competition.
A 6’3” forward, Oglesby was named tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Panthers to the championship of the Babson Invitational last weekend. He recorded back-to-back double-doubles, tossing in 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in an opening round win over Mount Ida, and following that with an 18-point, 13-rebound effort in the title game win over Babson. Oglesby also contributed seven assists and five steals in the two outings.
A 5’9” forward, Thomas was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Plattsburgh State Invitational over the weekend, helping the Panthers to a 1-1 record. Thomas finished with nine points and six rebounds in her collegiate debut on Saturday, a decisive victory over SUNY Old Westbury, and she added a team-high nine points and seven rebounds in the title game loss to Plattsburgh on Sunday. Thomas hit five of her 10 field goal attempts and 8-of-10 from the line while adding two assists and five steals.
Both Panther teams will make their home debuts this Tuesday (Nov. 25) in a non-conference doubleheader at Foley Gymnasium against Castleton State (women at 5:30 p.m., men at 7:30 p.m.).
