|Congressman Hodes and PSU President Steen with 2008 Winning Work|
PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Congressman Paul Hodes has invited high school students living in the Second Congressional District to submit two-dimensional art works to be judged for an exhibition hosted by Plymouth State University Sunday, April 19 as part of the National High School Art Competition.
The winning student will have his or her artwork presented for public display in the U.S. Capitol for 11 months, beginning in June. Artworks by the second- and third-place winners will be displayed in the Congressman’s Concord district office.
The exhibition and reception will be held in PSU Department of Art at the Draper and Maynard Building on South Main Street in Plymouth.
Professor Cynthia Vascak, chair of the Department of Art and PSU coordinator of the exhibition, says it is an honor for the department to collaborate with Congressman Hodes in this project to bring exceptional high school student art to the public.
“The event gives us an opportunity to showcase the work of our students, and opportunities and facilities in our department and the University for these young artists and their family and friends as well,” said Vascak.
The exhibition will be open for viewing beginning at 2 p.m. The program begins and 3 p.m. and will include remarks from PSU President Sara Jayne Steen, Congressman Hodes and Professor Vascek, announcement of the winners of the competition, and presentation of certificates to participating students.
PSU art department students will be available to give tours of the facility.

Southwest Airlines is providing three roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C. for the winner and two guests to attend the opening reception and ribbon cutting ceremony in June.
The winning student will also be offered a $1,500 per year renewable scholarship from the Savannah College of Art and Design, pending acceptance to the college.
