PLYMOUTH, N.H. – For the second straight week, the starting goalie on the Plymouth State University men’s ice hockey team has been recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference for his efforts in two Panther games last week.
Sophomore goalie Karl Helgesson (Lerum, Sweden) was named to the ECAC Northeast Weekly Honor Roll after his performance in the two contests. He was honored Tuesday a week after being named ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Week.
A 6’2”, 170-pound goalie, Helgesson recorded a 2-0-0 record for the week with a 0.97 goals against average and a .974 saves percentage. He recorded his first career shutout last Monday with 38 saves in PSU’s 5-0 win over Stonehill, and made 38 more saves in a 3-2 overtime win Saturday over UMass Dartmouth. He helped PSU survive a 5-minute major penalty the last three minutes of regulation and the first two minutes of overtime against UMD, including 50 seconds of a 5-on-3 situation.
The Panthers, 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast, continue a streak of seven out of eight games away from home this Tuesday (Nov. 23) with a non-conference encounter at Castleton State (7:00 p.m.)
