PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University men’s lacrosse team won its third game in a row Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 11-5, in a key Little East Conference match-up at Panther Field. It was the first home game of the season for PSU.
Plymouth State took the lead in the first quarter and held it the rest of the way. It was a 6-4 Panther lead after three quarters before the home team outscored the visitors 5-1 in the fourth frame. Plymouth State improves to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the LEC, while UMD falls to 6-6 and 1-4.
Senior goalie Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned the win in goal for PSU, making 11 saves. Junior Steve Chase (Boston, Mass.) made six saves in the UMD goal.
The Panthers used a balanced scoring attack. Junior Adam Krinsky (Concord, N.H.) and Tony Aguiar (Northborough, Mass.) each recorded two goals and one assists, and freshmen Wes Downing (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Tim Hadley (New London, N.H.) also scored two goals each. Sophomore Jordan Buzzell (Bath, Maine) and freshmen Matt Jahansmeyer (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) and Kyle Belanger (Southington, Conn.) added one goal each.
Freshman Mike Lee (Foxboro, Mass.) led the Corsairs with two goals, while senior Ryan Trexler (Agawam, Mass.) contributed a goal and an assist. Sophomore Matt Swirbalus (Weymouth, Mass.) and Jeff Pelton (Lowell, Mass.) also scored for UMD.
PSU plays an LEC make-up game on Sunday at Panther Field against the University of Southern Maine (1:00 p.m.) UMD plays a non-conference game Wednesday at Mount Ida (3:30 p.m.)
