HOLDERNESS, N.H. – Freshman Wes Downing (Glastonbury, Conn.) registered four goals and one assist and junior Adam Krinsky (Concord, N.H.) added a goal and three assists Thursday afternoon as Plymouth State University downed New England College, 11-5, in non-conference men’s lacrosse action at Bob Lowe Field at The Holderness School.
Krinsky tallied all four of his points in the first half, helping the Panthers to a 5-1 lead at the break. Downing added two goals and an assist in the second half while Krinsky was on the bench with an injury, as the Panthers went ahead 8-3 after three quarters and held off the Pilgrims in the final frame. PSU evens its record at 2-2 overall, while NEC falls to 2-3.
Senior Kyle McKay (Longmeadow, Mass.) also scored twice in the second half to spark the Panther offense. Sophomore Dave Mokos (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshmen Matt Jahansmeyer (Shelburne Falls, Mass.), Derick Smith (New London, N.H.) and Kyle Belanger (Southington, Conn.) added solo goals for PSU, the first of their careers for all three freshmen.
Freshman Anthony Savio (Medford, N.Y.) led the Pilgrims with a pair of goals, both coming in the third quarter to make it a 6-3 game. Junior Dillon Lantz (Woodstock, Vt.), freshman Dave Gardner (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and junior Dan Foster (Wiscasset, Maine) also scored for NEC.
Senior Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned the win in goal for PSU, making seven saves in the first 54 minutes before senior Nick Grobe (Winchester, Mass.) came on and made two stops in the final six minutes. Freshman Devin Baker (Medford, N.Y.) made 15 saves in the NEC goal.
PSU opens Little East Conference play Saturday with a visit to Western Connecticut State University (12:00 p.m.) NEC opens Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday at Gordon College (4:00 p.m.)
