PSU Men’s Lacrosse Player named New England Goaltender of the Week

April 4th, 2007 by Adam

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The starting goalie on the Plymouth State University men’s lacrosse team was honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference Wednesday with a top regional weekly honor.

Senior Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named the New England Goaltender of the Week by the ECAC. He was also named Little East Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

A senior and four-year starter in goal, Valeri recorded two wins, a 4.20 goals against average and a .789 saves percentage in two games last week, leading PSU to a pair of victories. He needed to make just seven saves in the first 55 minutes Thursday to post an 11-5 win over New England College, and he stopped a career-high 23 shots Saturday while allowing only four goals in PSU’s tight 6-4 LEC win at WestConn. The 23 saves eclipsed the mark of 21 he set in an ECAC Tournament semifinal win over Eastern Connecticut two years ago.
