WINTER PARK, Colo. – The United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association’s National Championships continued at Winter Park Resort on Thursday, with Plymouth State University finishing in an outstanding second place out of 19 schools in the men’s giant slalom race.
Rocky Mountain College took the top place, while Plymouth State finished in second followed by division rival Colby-Sawyer College. Sierra Nevada took fourth place while UMass Amherst ended up in fifth place.
Junior Jason Hey (Northboro, Mass.) finished 14th in the first run but bounced back with the fastest time in the second run, earning third place overall for the day among the 111 racers. Junior Vinnie DiNapoli (Ludlow, Vt.) and sophomore Josh Bedard (Laconia, N.H.) were right behind with strong finishes in 11th and 12th, respectively, and senior Matt Prendergast (Westminster, Mass.) was a solid 18th. Freshman Owen Carey-Hatch (Gilford, N.H.) started but did not finish the second run.
The championships continue Friday with the women’s slalom, and the event wraps up on Saturday with the men’s slalom.
