NORTH CONWAY, N.H. – The Plymouth State University men’s ski team continued to dominate the MacConnell Division Friday afternoon, winning the giant slalom race in a 10-team event at Cranmore Mountain for its third straight team victory of the season.
Plymouth State skiers finished 2-3-4-5 on the leader board in the men’s race, with two others finishing in the top 13 among the 77 racers. The Panther women had one top 10 finisher and two in the top 18 among the 78 women’s racers, and finished fifth out of 10 schools.
Sophomore Owen Carey-Hatch (Gilford, N.H.), seniors Vinnie DiNapoli (Ludlow, Vt.) and Jason Hey (Northboro, Mass.), and freshman Peter Ostroski (Intervale, N.H./Kennett) were the top-five finishers for PSU in the men’s race. Freshman Travis Nevins (Henniker, N.H.) wasn’t far behind in 10th place, and junior Brad Deitch (New City, N.Y.) came in 13th.
The team scoring includes the top five racers on each team, and PSU finished 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Boston College. UMass Amherst finished third, followed by Colby-Sawyer College, Babson College, MIT, Saint Anselm, Brown, and UConn.
Senior Melissa Caflisch (Clymer, N.Y.) was the top Panther finisher in the women’s race with a ninth place. Freshman Erin Fletcher (Franconia, N.H.) posted a solid 14th place, and sophomore Alyssa Deane (Casper, Wyo.) was 18th.
Boston College took the women’s team standings, with Brown runner-up and Colby-Sawyer third. The rest of the team standings were UMass, PSU, Smith, Babson, Saint Anselm, MIT, and UConn.
The teams will compete again Saturday at Cranmore Mountain with a slalom race.
