BEVERLY, Mass. – Plymouth State University freshman goalkeeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) made a first-half goal by freshman forward Semir Mehmedovic (Franklin, N.H.) stand up Wednesday night as the Panthers handed Endicott College a 1-0 shutout at Endicott Stadium.
Senior Brad Wyman (Durham, N.H.) set up the Mehmedovic goal for the Panthers in the 29th minute, and that turned out to be all of the scoring. The Panthers remain unbeaten with a 6-0-1 overall record, while the Gulls fell to 1-6-0 in the non-conference game.
Senior Mariano Pagano (Buenos Aires, Argentina) had a chance to notch the equalizer for Endicott with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation but Shute, who turned away five shots, made a diving stop on the strike to preserve his third shutout of the season.
The Panther defense continues to shine. PSU has surrendered only five goals in seven games, and only once allowed more than one score.
Plymouth State, which has played six of its first seven games on the road, returns home to host Eastern Connecticut Saturday at Panther Field in a key Little East Conference affair (3:00 p.m.) Endicott hosts Colby-Sawyer Saturday in a key Commonwealth Coast Conference contest.
