PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University’s men’s soccer team celebrated Senior Night Thursday evening at Panther Field with a 7-0 non-conference victory over Thomas College.
Senior Steve Balgach (Fairfield, Conn.) scored two first-half goals to help PSU to a 3-0 halftime lead. Freshman Semir Mehmedovic (Franklin, N.H.), PSU’s leading scorer, added three goals in the second half for the winners. Mehmedovic now has 10 goals this season.
Freshman Gareth Stephens (Yeovil, England) was also a strong contributor to the Panther offense, scoring PSU’s third goal in the first half and assisting on two of Mehmedovic’s goals. Sophomore Takeru Tanikawa (Shizuoka, Japan) also scored for the hosts, and sophomore Greg Greico (Mahopac, N.Y.) and senior Brad Wyman (Durham, N.H.) collected assists.
Freshman Nick Giusto (West Islip, N.Y.) made his first appearance in the PSU goal, and made one save to record the shutout. Junior Ryan Conrad (Augusta, Maine) was solid in the Thomas net, making nine saves.
PSU, 10-3-3 overall, wraps up the regular season Saturday with a Little East Conference game at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.) The outcome of that game will determine PSU’s fate in next week’s LEC Tournament. Thomas played hard but concluded its season at 0-14-1.
