DANBURY, Conn. – Junior Chris Catatao (Burlington, Mass.) scored a goal and assisted on another Sunday afternoon as Plymouth State University defeated Western Connecticut State University, 3-0, in a Little East Conference men’s soccer game at Westside Athletic Complex.
The Panthers, now 9-5-1 overall and 4-2 in the Little East, took a 1-0 lead just 2:17 into the game when freshman Seth Dejardins (Wakefield, Mass.) headed home a crossing pass from senior Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica). Sophomore Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) put away Catatao’s corner kick 10 minutes later and the Panther held a 2-0 advantage at intermission.
Catatao added his fourth goal of the season with 1:36 remaining in the game when he collected a carom from Paul Melitsanopoulos’ (Norwalk, Conn.) save in the Colonials’ goal mouth.
Melitsanopoulos finished the day with six saves for WestConn. Senior Dan Custance (Holderness, N.H.) made four saves for Plymouth State. Shots were even on the day at 12 apiece.
The Colonials are now 3-10-3 overall and 0-4-1 in the league and host Rivier this Tuesday, Oct. 26. PSU will play the final game of the regular season next Saturday, Oct. 30, at Rhode Island College (1:00 p.m.), a contest that will help determine the seeds for the LEC Tournament.
