NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshman R.C. Mooney (Roseland, N.J.) picked a good time to score the first goal of his career as Plymouth State University nipped the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 1-0 Saturday in the Little East Conference men’s soccer opener for both schools.
Mooney’s goal exactly three minutes into the second half proved to be the game-winner as PSU improved to 4-1 overall while host UMD dropped to 3-2. Panther sophomore Adam Bakanosky (Hampstead, N.H.) assisted on the game-winning marker.
PSU senior keeper Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.) was called on to make eight saves en route to his third shutout of the season while sophomore Adam Wells (Ashland, Mass.) made four saves in the Corsair net.
Plymouth State returns home to host Wheaton on Wednesday at Panther Field (6:00 p.m.) in a tough non-conference encounter. The Lyons were ranked #3 in New England and #18 in Division III in last week’s polls, while PSU was ranked #10 in New England.
