PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the seniors on the Plymouth State University men’s ice hockey team was recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference Wednesday for his performance in a pair of Panther victories last week.
Senior Goose LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) was named ECAC Northeast Conference Player of the Week. It is the first ECAC weekly honor this season for LaCroix, who was the only player in the conference last year to receive the award twice.
A 5’8”, 170-pound forward, LaCroix (left) recorded seven points in two conference games (five goals, two assists), leading PSU to a 2-0-0 record on the week. He scored a hat trick in last Saturday’s 6-3 victory over Worcester State, and added two goals and two assists in Sunday’s 8-0 win over Franklin Pierce. He was named the game’s No. 1 Star in both outings.
LaCroix is now tied for third on the team in scoring with 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists) in 25 games. He was an All-Conference Second Team pick last season after totaling 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 26 games.
The Panthers, 11-12-2 overall, completed the regular season in fourth place in the ECAC Northeast with a 10-4-1 mark. PSU will have home ice in the first round of the conference tournament, which begins on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Panthers will host fifth-seeded Fitchburg State (13-9-3 overall, 9-4-2 in conference play) on Saturday at Waterville Valley (6:00 p.m.)
Plymouth State has met Fitchburg State in the post-season six times since 1986, with a 2-4 record against the Falcons. The Panthers won the first encounter in 1986 (7-6), and the most recent meeting in 2005 (6-1). Fitchburg State won four straight in between, in 1991 (5-3), 1994 (6-0), 1998 (11-2), and 1999 (6-2).
PSU and FSC met twice this season, with Fitchburg State winning 7-2 in the championship game of the Salem State Tournament in December, and the two teams skating to a 1-1 tie in the conference meeting two weeks ago.
