PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University took the fifth-ranked team in the country and #1 in New England, Bowdoin College, to overtime but came up short, falling 2-1 Tuesday evening at Panther Field.
The Panthers suffer their first setback of the season and fall to 3-1-0 overall, while Bowdoin improves to 3-0-0.
Bowdoin struck first, when junior Tucker Hodgkins (Yarmouth, ME) headed home a deflected shot in front with 27 minutes remaining in the first half.
PSU answered in the second half at the 67th minute mark when junior Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Plymouth H.S.-NH) finished off a rebound to tie the score.
Bowdoin scored the game winner four minutes into OT, when Thomas Bresnehan (Sherborn, Mass.) broke the PSU defense and slid the ball past the Panther keeper.
PSU goalie Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.) made eight saves, while BC keeper Travis Derr (Berlin, CT) made three.
Plymouth State is back in action Saturday (Sept. 20) when they make its Little East Conference debut at UMass Dartmouth. Bowdoin returns home to host Williams Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
