PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Four outstanding student-athletes from the 1980’s and 1990’s and two individuals who’ve made their mark as coaches and teachers have been announced as the newest class of the Plymouth State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

This year’s group of inductees represents the Panther men’s and women’s soccer programs as well as the sports of football, ice hockey and wrestling. Two inductees are veterans who excelled as pioneers in athletics and sports in a different era.

The newcomers will be enshrined in the 21st annual induction ceremony at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005. This year’s group increases the total numbers in the Hall to 104 individuals and six teams.

The new inductees are Brian Borkowski (‘99), a two-time New England wrestling champion who was an All-America as a senior after finishing 33-1 and runner-up at the NCAA Division III National Championships; Cassandra Donovan (’65), a field hockey, basketball and tennis player at Plymouth Teachers College who enjoyed a long and successful career at Exeter (N.H.) High School as coach, athletic director and pioneer for girls sports; Tony Guarino (’50), a basketball and baseball starter for Plymouth Teachers College who was a successful basketball coach, listing among his accomplishments three straight Vermont state championships for Barre H.S. from 1961-63; Randy Jennings Swormstedt (’94), a three-sport athlete at Plymouth State who made her biggest mark in soccer, where she earned All-New England honors twice, was named to the 1993 All-America Second Team, and helped the Panthers to four straight NCAA berths; Tim Kelliher (’82), a four-year starter in both football and ice hockey at Plymouth State who earned All-Conference and All-New England honors in football and team MVP honors in ice hockey; and Brett Scaccia (’98), the second all-time leading scorer in Plymouth State men’s soccer history who was a First Team All-America selection in 1997 after scoring 26 goals and leading the team to the NCAA Regional final.

The inaugural Plymouth State Athletic Hall of Fame class was inducted in 1985. This year’s activities at Prospect Hall on the PSU campus on Oct. 2nd begin with a reception at 12:00 p.m., followed at 1:00 p.m. with a banquet and the induction ceremony.
