PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized by the Little East Conference on Monday for their achievements in multiple Panther victories last week.
Senior Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass) was named LEC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman Semir Mehmedovic (Franklin, N.H.) was selected LEC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week. The two individuals helped their teams each win two games, and both players scored the game-winning goals in each contest.
A 5’7” co-captain, Silva (left) had a hand in all five Panther goals on the week, scoring four times, including both game-winners, and assisting on the other as PSU went 2-0 for the week. She tallied all three goals in PSU’s 3-1 win over Endicott, then assisted on the Panthers’ first goal and scored the game-winner in a 2-1 win Saturday over LEC foe Southern Maine.
Silva is among the top scorers in the LEC with a team-leading eight goals, two assists and 18 points. She extended her PSU-record career totals to 55 goals, 18 assists and 128 points.
A 5’7”, 133-pound forward, Mehmedovic (right) scored both game-winning goals as PSU completed a 2-0-0 week. He scored the only goal of the game Wednesday in PSU’s 1-0 road win at Endicott, and scored the golden goal for PSU four minutes into overtime Saturday in a key LEC win over Eastern Connecticut. He leads the team and ranks among the conference scoring leaders with five goals, two assists and 12 points.
Both Panther squads face archrival and defending LEC champion Keene State in their next game – field hockey on Wednesday at Arold Field (4:00 p.m.) and men’s soccer on Saturday at Keene (2:00 p.m.)
