PSU to Test Emergency Alert Siren Sept. 17

September 16th, 2008 by Adam

PLYMOUTH, N.H.––Plymouth State University will test its new Emergency Alert Siren at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 17. The test will last about five minutes. The purpose of the PSU Emergency Alert Siren is to notify campus and community residents, staff and visitors to an imminent threat or danger.

The Emergency Alert Siren is located on a pole adjacent to the Hartman Union Building on High Street and should be audible for approximately a one-mile radius.

During the test, PSU staff and safety personnel and representatives of the company that installed the siren will be posted around campus confirming the siren is audible; Plymouth and Holderness officials will also place designated “spotters” throughout the community to determine the range of the siren. Plymouth officials will alert the local schools in advance of the test and be on site during the test.

PSU’s emergency alert communication systems will also be tested.

    On campus only:

The emergency alert siren is part of a comprehensive emergency alert system PSU has established to respond to emergencies.

The siren will be tested twice a year (at noon on the third Wednesday in September and February) and otherwise will sound only when there is threat of imminent danger to those in the campus community.
