SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Plymouth State University ended up in fifth place Saturday at the annual Tom Hay Invitational Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Springfield College.
The Panthers went 0-2 in pool play, falling to Keene State in five games (22-30, 30-15, 30-27, 23-30, 15-12) and Endicott in three games (30-26, 30-25, 30-27). PSU came back to defeat Westfield State in five games in the fifth-place match, 30-21, 30-25, 21-30, 25-30, 15-11.
The victory over Westfield State marked the 200th career victory at Plymouth State for head coach Moira Long. She is now 200-104 in her ninth season.
PSU had defeated Keene State earlier in the week, 3-1, and lost to Endicott last month, 3-0. Keene State won the third-place match Saturday over Gordon, 3-1. Endicott faced Springfield in the championship match Saturday night.
Plymouth State, now 11-8 on the season, is back in action Wednesday with a match at Norwich (7:00 p.m.)
