NEW LONDON, Conn. – Third-seeded Plymouth State University was knocked out of the ECAC Division III New England Volleyball Tournament Saturday afternoon, falling to second-seeded Wellesley College in the semifinal round, three-games-to-none.
The Blue posted a 30-17, 30-16, 30-24 verdict over the Panthers. PSU had advanced to the semifinals Friday night with a 3-0 win over sixth-seeded Roger Williams. The loss to Wellesley ended Plymouth State’s season with a 23-17 record.
Wellesley, 25-11, ended up falling in the tournament championship to top-seeded Coast Guard, 3-0.
Freshman Jessica Duff (Saline, Mich.) led Wellesley against PSU with 14 kills, while classmate Emily Peters (Orange, Cal.) had 19 digs and junior Courtney Chin (San Fancisco, Cal). had 33 assists.
Senior Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) led Plymouth State with 10 kills and 15 digs while classmate Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) added 18 assists and 12 digs. Senior Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 17 digs and five blocks but was limited to just three kills.
