PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Juniors Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) continued their strong play Tuesday evening, leading the Plymouth State University volleyball team to a Little East Conference victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 3-1, at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers captured the first two games, 30-18 and 30-25, before the Corsairs rebounded with a 30-19 decision in the third game. PSU put the match away with a 30-24 verdict in game four. Plymouth State improves to 17-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while UMD dropped to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the LEC.
Ciulla led the Panthers with 17 kills, while Landry added 16. Junior setter Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) helped the offense with 50 assists. Freshman Kim Tobyne (Bedford, N.H./West) recorded a team-high 12 digs, and Bagwell and Landry contributed 10 digs apiece. Junior Kim Krause (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) chipped in with eight kills and nine digs.
Sophomore Rachel Smith (Somerset, Mass.) led the Corsairs with 25 kills.
Plymouth State travels to Springfield College this Saturday to compete in the Tom Hay Invitational (9:00 a.m.). UMD plays a non-conference match Thursday at Regis (7:00 p.m.).
