GORHAM, Maine – Plymouth State University captured a pair of volleyball matches Saturday in the Little East Round Robin played at the University of Southern Maine’s Warren G. Hill Gymnasium.
The Panthers opened the day by defeating Keene State College in a five-game thriller, 3-2, by scores of 30-24, 22-30, 21-30, 30-27 and 15-12. In the final match of the afternoon, PSU swept the host Huskies in three straight games, 30-25, 30-17 and 30-27.
Plymouth State improves to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the LEC with the two wins Saturday. Western Connecticut swept its two matches to raise its record to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Southern Maine dropped to 5-4 overall and 0-3 in Little East play, and Keene State is now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
In PSU’s victory over Keene State, junior Kim Krause (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) led the way with 26 kills and eight digs. Junior Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) contributed 20 kills and six digs, and freshman Kim Tobyne (Bedford, N.H.) had a team-high 17 digs. Junior setter Amanda Bagwell (Riverside R.I.) passed out 31 assists.
In the Southern Maine victory, Landry led PSU with 16 kills and four service aces. Krause chipped in with nine kills, Tobyne added 20 digs, and Bagwell finished with 20 assists.
Plymouth State returns to action Tuesday evening (7:00 p.m.) at Endicott.
