DANBURY, Conn. – Mallory Stevens (Seymour, Conn.) scored a game-high 17 points and Ally Greenwood (East Hartford, Conn.) added 16 points and seven assists Saturday afternoon as the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball team defeated Plymouth State University, 83-66, at Feldman Arena.
The Colonials, now 11-6 overall and 4-3 in the Little East Conference, came back from a 35-34 halftime deficit to outscore the Panthers, 49-31 in the second stanza.
WestConn had built an 11-point bulge, 24-13 with 8:15 remaining in the first half, before Plymouth State went on to score 20 of the game’s next 26 points. Following a long three-pointer by Kaitlin Linehan (South Boston, Mass.), the Panthers led 33-28 with 3:02 still left in the first half.
The Colonials took the lead for good, 42-40 following a lay in by Stevens with 15:27 remaining in the game.
Stacey Roberts (Windham, Conn) added 10 points and had five points for the Colonials.
Plymouth State, now 4-12 overall and 1-6 in the LEC, were led by junior Joy DePalo (Enfield, N.H.), who scored 17 points. Freshman Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.) added 15 points in the loss, and junior Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Both teams meet intra-state rivals at home at 5:30 on Tuesday; WestConn hosts Eastern Connecticut and Plymouth State returns home to host Keene State.
