WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women’s hockey team gave a strong effort but lost its first game of the season Saturday evening to Boston University, 8-0, at the Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Terriors outshot the Panthers by a wide margin, but Plymouth State had some solid scoring chances. BU tallied three goals in the first and third periods, and two in the middle frame and skated home with the win.
Sophomore Danielle Lewis (Scarborough, Maine) was busy in the Panther goal, making 39 saves. Eden Spencer stopped all six shots she faced for BU.
Plymouth State is in its second season with a women’s hockey program in 2004-05, with eyes on becoming a varsity program in the future. Several women were unavailable for Saturday’s hockey game due to their involvement with PSU’s field hockey and rugby teams.
PSU, 0-1-0, is back in action next Saturday, Nov. 20, in another home game at Waterville Valley against UMass Amherst (1:30 p.m.)
