LEWISTON, Maine – Junior Molly Perron (Hartland, Vt.) recorded a hat trick Friday night to lead Plymouth State University to a 7-0 victory over Bates College in women’s college hockey action.
Sophomore Amanda Kreamer (Lynn, Mass.) also added two goals in the winning effort and freshman Alyssa Hovanec (Marlborough, Conn.) collected a goal and two assists as the Panthers picked up their first victory of the season.
Perron gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game, with assists from Hovanec and senior Missy Fales (West Kingston, R.I.) Hovanec doubled the lead with a power play goal with two minutes to go in the opening frame, with assists from senior Kelly Williams (Sunapee, N.H.) and freshman Kristen Leach (Smithfield, R.I.)
Williams tallied an unassisted goal in the first minute of the second period to put the Panthers up by three, and Perron’s second of the game, from Hovanec and Fales, made it 4-0 through two periods. Kreamer scored her two goals to open the third period, and Perron rounded out the scoring and her hat trick late in the third period.
Sophomore Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) earned the shutout victory in the Panther goal.
PSU returns to action on Tuesday with a non-conference game at Castleton State (7:00 p.m.)
