SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. – Freshman Alyssa Hovanec (Marlborough, Conn.) scored two goals and sophomore goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) made 31 saves Saturday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University’s women’s ice hockey team to a 5-0 victory over North Country Community College at the Tupper Lake Civic Center.
Hovanec’s first goal, assisted by freshman Kristen Leach (Smithfield, R.I.), gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead after one period. Hovanec tallied an unassisted goal midway through the second period to put the visitors up by two, and senior Sam Turner (Pawling, N.Y.), sophomore Kim Chandler (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass.) added third-period scores to help the Panthers put the game away. Sophomore Amanda Kreamer (Lynn, Mass.) recorded an assist on Turner’s goal, and Arponen’s goal was set up by sophomore Danielle Calligandes (Wolfeboro, N.H.)
Plymouth State had a 51-31 advantage in shots on goal. DeLorie stopped all 31 Saints’ shots to record her second shutout of the season.
PSU, 3-14-0 overall, travels to Rhode Island next weekend for a pair of games, facing the University of Rhode Island on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) and Salve Regina University on Sunday (2:00 p.m.)
