MERIDEN, N.H. – Seniors Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) and Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) combined for seven goals and three assists Thursday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to a 15-9 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference women’s lacrosse action played at Kimball Union Academy.
Pinault recorded four goals and an assist to lead the way, while Cupoli contributed three goals and two assists. They helped PSU to its third win in a row as the Panthers improve to 7-4 overall. The Chargers had their six-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-3.
Plymouth State took an early 3-0 advantage in the opening six minutes and never looked back. After the teams traded goals over the next 10 minutes to make it a 5-2 game, the Panthers scored five of the final six goals of the half to make it a 10-3 margin at the break.
The Chargers started to come alive in the second half, thanks to two goals each from Allicia Murphy (North Bennington, Vt.) and Lisa Giordanno (Londonderry, N.H.), but the Panther lead proved to be too much to overcome.
In addition to Pinault and Cupoli, the Panther offense got contributions from senior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) with two goals and two assists and classmate Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.) with a goal and two assists. Sophomore Cassidy Barry (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added two goals each, and freshman Rhiannon Groff (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) scored once.
Three Chargers finished with two goals each, as Stewart, Giordano and Murphy all tallied goals. Murphy added two assists in the loss.
Plymouth State returns to action on Saturday with a Little East Conference game at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.) Colby-Sawyer also plays again on Saturday, facing Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match-up at 3 p.m. in Milton, Mass.
