WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Senior Beatrice Gratry (Hunting Valley, Ohio) scored seven goals Friday morning to lead Trinity College (Conn.) past Plymouth State University, 18-10, in a non-conference women’s lacrosse game.
The Bantams rattled off nine unanswered goals in the second half to turn a 9-8 game into a runaway. Trinity improves to 5-0 on the season, while PSU has its mark evened at 1-1.
The game was close in the first half. It was 3-3 just 10 minutes into the contest before Trinity scored four straight goals to take a 7-3 lead. PSU rallied to cut Trinity’s margin to 9-7 at the half, and opened the scoring in the second half before the Bantams went on a roll to put the game away.
Junior Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) led the Panthers with three goals, while sophomore Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) added two goals and two assists. Junior Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) and sophomore Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) also collected two goals apiece, and sophomore Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist.
In addition to Gratry, Trinity got three goals each from freshman C.J. Yanofsky (Needham, Mass.) and senior Tracy Nesbit (Wellesley, Mass.). Junior Meredith Murphy (McLean, Va.) also scored twice for the Bantams, and junior Catherine Neil (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Cassie Mann (Rosemont, Pa.) contributed one goal each.
Pinault led PSU with nine shots and seven ground balls, while sophomore Steph Blanchette (Sudbury, Mass.) led the Panther defense with six caused turnovers.
Sophomore Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.) and senior Kristin Elliott (Exeter, N.H.) combined to make 18 saves in the Panther goal.
PSU returns to New England and is scheduled to play next Thursday, Mar. 31, at Gordon College (4:00 p.m.)
