DANBURY, Conn. – Plymouth State University’s women’s lacrosse remained undefeated (5-0) Saturday afternoon with an impressive 17-2 Little East Conference road victory over Western Connecticut State University at the Westside Athletic Complex.
Senior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) led the Panthers with five goals and two assists. Sheridan, the 2003 Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Year, leads the league in points and assists this season, now with 24 goals, 13 assists and 37 points.
Freshman Kelsey MacDonald (Oaks Bluffs, Mass.) contributed five goals and an assist in the win. Sophomore Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.), the Little East Rookie of the Year in 2003, added three goals and two assists for the Panthers.
Jillian Brown (Northport, NY) and Ellie Champagne (Newtown, CT) each scored for the Colonials, and Champagne added one assist.
Sheridan scored just eight seconds into the game to give the Panthers the quick 1-0 advantage en route to a 13-0 halftime lead. Sheridan also scored eight seconds into the second half as the visitors coasted to the victory.
Champagne’s goal with 15:04 left in the game put the Colonials in the scoring column.
Plymouth State, picked to finish first in the pre-season poll, improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the Little East. With Sunday’s game against Bridgewater State cancelled due to field conditions in Plymouth, the Panthers will look to continue their undefeated season on Tuesday vs. Southern Maine.
The Colonials will next face intra-state rivals Eastern Connecticut Tuesday at the Westside Athletic Complex.
