WELLINGTON, Fla. – Seniors Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) combined for 11 points Thursday to lead the Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team to a 16-5 victory over SUNY Fredonia in the final game of the spring trip.
It was the third win in as many days for Plymouth State, which improves to 3-1 on the season, while Fredonia State falls to 1-2. The game was a make-up from last Sunday, when the game had to be postponed due to PSU’s travel delays.
The Panthers scored eight unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes before Fredonia State got on the board. PSU went on to lead 9-3 at halftime, and scored the first four goals of the second half to put the game away.
Pinault led all scorers with six points on three goals and three assists, while MacDonald scored a team-high five goals. Sophomore Cassidy Barry (Branford, Conn.) contributed four points (2 goals, 2 assists) for the Panthers, and senior Meg Cupoli (Northboro, Mass.) added a goal and two assists. Senior Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.) and freshman Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.) finished with two goals apiece, and senior Amanda Spadafora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and an assist.
MacDonald was also dominant in the midfield, recording seven draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Pinault also collected four draw controls.
Junior Carrie Halstead (Penfield, N.Y.) scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the Blue Devils. Sophomore Jennifer Haas (Rush, N.Y.) registered a goal and an assist, and juniors Leslie Von Pless (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Christie Zaganiaczyk (Lancaster, N.Y.) scored one goal each.
Junior Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.) made nine saves to earn the win in the Panther net.
PSU is back in action next Tuesday, March 27, with a non-conference game at Springfield College (7:00 p.m.) The game was originally scheduled to be played in New Hampshire, but was moved to Springfield due to field conditions.
