WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Plymouth State University used a balanced scoring attack Tuesday and went on to defeat Allegheny College, 18-4, to record its first women’s lacrosse victory of the season. The decision also marked the first career victory for PSU head coach Abi Jackson.
It was a scoreless game for the first 14 minutes until Allegheny got on the board. PSU evened the score five minutes later and rattled off eight goals over the next 10 minutes to take an 8-1 lead into halftime. The Panthers outscored the Gators 3-1 in the first 10 minutes of the second half and cruised home with the win.
Five Panthers recorded at least three goals in the contest. Senior Annie Pinault (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Cassidy Barry (Branford, Conn.) scored four goals apiece to lead the way, with Pinault also collecting an assist. Senior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) tallied three goals and an assist, and senior Meg Cupoli (Northboro, Mass.) and freshman Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.) chipped in with three goals each. Senior Liz Boddy (Brentwood, N.H.) also contributed a goal and an assist.
Freshman Christina Zanic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) led the Gators with a pair of second-half goals.
Junior Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.) had nine saves in net to earn the win for the Panthers. Junior Lesley Stange (Murraysville, Pa.) suffered the loss, allowing 13 goals and making six saves, while freshman Rachael Coons (Latham, N.Y.) made one save in her time between the pipes.
PSU returns to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against Franklin Pierce College. The Panthers have also scheduled a make-up game against Fredonia State for Thursday at 4:30 p.m., a contest that was postponed from Sunday when PSU was experiencing travel delays.
