WENHAM, Mass. – Senior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) scored a season-high 11 points Monday afternoon on eight goals and three assists as Plymouth State University cruised past Gordon College, 17-5, in a non-conference women’s lacrosse game.
The Panthers remain undefeated on the season (4-0) and have outscored their opponents by a 67-18 margin. Gordon drops to 1-3 this spring.
Sheridan, PSU’s all-time scoring leader with 202 goals and 277 points, upped her season total to 19 goals and 11 assists. She scored four goals in each half against Gordon, including all four Panther scores in the second half. She also had three assists in the first half as PSU jumped out to a 13-2 lead by intermission.
Joining Sheridan in the scoring parade against Gordon was sophomore Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.), who contributed five goals and one assist. Senior Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) added a goal and two assists, and single goals were tallied by sophomore Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) and freshmen SeaSea Fuhrman (Lakewood, Co.) and Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.).
MacDonald and senior Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.) provided strong midfield play for the Panthers, as MacDonald picked up a team-high eight ground balls and Matteson registered five ground balls and a team-best three caused turnovers.
Senior goalie Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) started and made 11 saves to register the win for PSU, while junior Kristin Elliott (Exeter, N.H.) made her first appearance of the season in relief and recorded two saves.
PSU is back in action with two games this coming weekend – the Little East Conference opener on Saturday at Western Connecticut (12:00 p.m.) and the home opener at Arold Field on Sunday vs. Bridgewater State (2:00 p.m.).
