STANDISH, Maine – Sophomore Kelsey McBride (Brookline, N.H.) scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half Saturday afternoon to give Plymouth State University a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph’s College in a non-conference women’s soccer game.
The victory propelled PSU to a 3-0-0 start to the season, while Saint Joseph’s drops to 1-1.
After a scoreless first half, McBride tallied her first goal of the season in the 67th minute, with an assist from classmate Krista Pettrey (Northfield, Vt.). Neither team was able to score the rest of the way, with PSU finishing with a slight 11-9 advantage in shots on goal.
PSU junior keeper Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) recorded her second straight shutout with a five-save effort. SJC keeper Cheryl Northrup also finished with five saves.
The Panthers return home to host Bridgewater State in a non-conference affair on Wednesday at Panther Field (4:00 p.m.)
