KEENE, N.H. – Sophomore Katie Stevens (Londonderry, N.H.) scored two goals Saturday afternoon to lead Keene State College to a 6-0 victory over rival Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference women’s soccer game at Owl Athletic Complex.
Undefeated in its last six games, Keene State improves to 8-3-1 and remains undefeated in the LEC (3-0-1). PSU, which suffered its third straight shutout, falls to 6-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.
Stevens scored the first two goals of the game in the first half. The sophomore forward made a nifty cross-over dribble for the game’s initial goal and later scored on an indirect kick play. They were her fourth and fifth goals of the season.
Sophomore Tara Wagner (Avon, Conn.), junior Missy Mangual (East Berlin, Conn.), freshman Gabby Cyr (Fort Kent, Me.), and sophomore Molly Blanchette (Canterbury, N.H.) added second half goals for the Owls. It was Cyr’s first college goal.
Midway in the second half, PSU sophomore Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) knocked the ball into the net, but the apparent goal was called back because of a foul in the box.
Senior Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) had three saves on the way to notching her sixth shutout of the season. Junior Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) also had three saves for the Panthers.
Keene State is at Williams College on Wednesday (4:30 p.m.). Plymouth State is at Southern Maine next Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
