WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley College swam to victory in 11 of the 16 events Saturday afternoon and defeated Plymouth State University, 154-135, in collegiate women’s swimming and diving action.
The Falcons had four swimmers capture two individual events apiece. Sophomore Kristen Thuerk (Cheshire, Conn.) won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races, freshman Kristen Reinckens (Hudson, N.Y.) took the 50- and 100-yard backstroke events, junior Arden Brust (Newark, N.Y.) finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, and junior Liza Connolly (Washington, Conn.) touched first in the 50-yard free and the 100-yard individual medley. Junior Allison Colarusso (Middleboro, Mass.) also won the 100-yard breaststroke for the Falcons, who won both relay races.
Plymouth State had a pair of double winners in the meet. Freshman Caitlin Little (Scituate, Mass.) placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (58.76 seconds) and 50-yard butterfly (28.65 seconds), and senior Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass.) captured the two diving events, scoring a season-best 230.50 points to win on one-meter and a career-high 248.40 to win on three-meter. Her score on the high board was less than a point off the school record of 248.80 set by Becky Huntington in January of 2001.
PSU’s other winner was sophomore Kaitlyn Milligan (Forestdale, Mass.), who captured the 50-yard breaststroke in 36.08 seconds. Senior Cait Anton (Woolwich, Maine) finished runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.79) and 1,000-yard freestyle (12:23.66).
