PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University coasted to its sixth consecutive victory Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the University of Southern Maine, 9-0, in a Little East Conference women’s tennis match at the P.E. Center Courts.
The visiting Huskies had only three players at the match due to conflicting class schedules. PSU easily won the four matches played, improving to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in LEC matches. Southern Maine continues to struggle, dropping to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Junior Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) and senior Erica Huckins (Holderness, N.H.) led the Panthers with two victories apiece. Deyermond won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Huckins won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and they teamed up for an 8-0 win in the only doubles match. Sophomore Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.) also collected a win for PSU at No. 2 singles.
PSU plays a key LEC match on Senior Day this Saturday against defending LEC champion Rhode Island College (1:00 p.m.). Plymouth State and RIC are tied for first place in the LEC, both teams undefeated in conference matches. USM will look for its first victory Saturday at home against Western Connecticut (1:00 p.m.)
