PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women’s tennis team wrapped up the regular season in winning fashion Saturday afternoon, sweeping Western Connecticut State University, 9-0, in a Little East Conference match at the P.E. Center’s indoor courts.
The Panthers conclude dual matches with an 8-3 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark, while WestConn falls to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in LEC matches. WestConn will host next weekend’s LEC Championships as PSU attempts to defend its conference title.
PSU seniors Whitney O’Leary (Sagamore Beach, Mass.), Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) and Sarah Cole (North Waterboro, Maine) celebrated Senior Day at PSU Saturday with a pair of victories each. O’Leary snapped a losing streak with a straight-set triumph at No. 1 singles, while Xavier and Cole were winners at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively. All three were also victorious in their doubles encounters.
Sophomore Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.), junior Erica Huckins (Plymouth, N.H.) and freshman Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.) also collected singles wins for PSU. Senior Liz Duell (Hope Valley, R.I.) also captured her final home match, pairing with Cole for a win at No. 3 doubles.
Cole (11-2 record) and Rodier (11-3) share the team lead in singles wins, while Xavier is now 10-4 and Huckins is 9-3.
