PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University’s women’s tennis team won for the third time in its last four outings Saturday with an 8-1 Little East Conference victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the P.E. Center Fieldhouse.
The Panthers improve to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference matches, while UMD drops to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the Little East.
Five Panther players were winners in both singles and doubles. Sophomore Whitney O’Leary (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) was a three-set winner at No. 2 singles, and teamed with classmate Jessie Leone (Cataumet, Mass.) for a victory at No. 1 doubles. Senior Katie Olsen (Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Megan Sowers (Londonderry, N.H.) were victorious at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively, while pairing up for a win at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) and senior Cally Thorup (Cumberland, Maine) were also double winners, combining for the win at No. 3 doubles and capturing singles matches at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Xavier improved her team-best record in singles to 6-1, while Xavier and Thorup are a PSU-best 4-1 in doubles.
UMD’s only win came from sophomore Hannah Chavez (Billerica, Mass.) at No. 1 singles.
PSU returns to action Thursday with a non-conference match at Endicott (3:30 p.m.). UMD returns home to host Pine Manor on Thursday (3:30 p.m.).
