BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State College won four singles matches and two doubles matches Wednesday afternoon and defeated Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference women’s tennis encounter, 6-3.
The Panthers collected singles victories from junior Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) at No. 4 and junior Sarah Cole (North Waterboro, Maine) at No. 6. Xavier remained perfect this season in singles with a 3-0 record and Cole improved to 2-1. Sophomore Erica Huckins (Plymouth, N.H.) and junior Liz Duell (Hope Valley, R.I.) also teamed up to capture a victory for the Panthers at No. 3 doubles to improve their record to 2-0.
PSU, 1-2 overall and 1-1 in LEC matches, returns home to host Salem State on Saturday in another conference contest. The start time of that match has been moved from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. Bridgewater State, which (like Salem State) is playing LEC tennis for the first time this season, is 1-1 overall and in the conference.
