PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University volleyball team cruised to a pair of three-game victories Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference round-robin at Foley Gymnasium, defeating Western Connecticut State University (30-17, 30-28, 30-23) and the University of Southern Maine (30-11, 30-13, 30-23).
The Panthers stopped a three-game losing streak with the victories, improving to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the LEC. Western Connecticut is now 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play, and Southern Maine drops to 4-6 and 0-2. WestConn swept Southern Maine in the middle match of the day, 3-0.
Freshman Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) led the Panthers in the win over WestConn, recording 12 kills and two blocks. Junior Kaitlyn Collins (Mahwah, N.J.) added eight kills, and freshman setter Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) contributed four service aces and 34 assists. Sophomore libero Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) anchored the defense with 16 digs.
Badeau was the top Panther hitter in the Southern Maine match as well, knocking down seven kills. PSU served well as a team with 20 aces, five from freshman Kathy Frankowski (Unionville, Conn.) and four from sophomore Wendy Dziedzic (Nashua, N.H.)
PSU is home again on Wednesday, hosting Lyndon State at Foley Gymnasium (6:00 p.m.)
