PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Kari Geisler (Deerfield, N.H.) notched her eighth double-double of the season Saturday afternoon to lead Rhode Island College to a 72-54 victory over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference women’s basketball action at the Murray Center.
Geisler scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for the Anchorwomen, who improved to 12-7 overall and 4-5 in the LEC, matching their win total from last year. PSU fell to 5-14 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
RIC led by 12 points (38-26) at the half, and used an 8-3 run to open the second half and never looked back. The Anchorwomen led by as many as 22 points before settling for the 18-point win. RIC also defeated PSU 75-50 in Plymouth last month.
Junior Josalee Danieli (New Gloucester, Maine) also finished with 18 points for the winners, and junior Sarah Coughlin (North Attleboro, Mass.) contributed 10 points, nine assists and five rebounds.
Senior Kaitlin Linehan (South Boston, Mass.) came off the bench to record eight points and 10 rebounds for Plymouth State. Freshman Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.) was the high scorer for PSU with nine points.
The Panthers are idle until next Saturday (Feb. 3) when they begin a three-game home stand against UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.). RIC hosts Mitchell College on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.)
