WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Junior Krista Pettrey (Williston, Vt.) and sophomore Jenna Lace (Pascoag, R.I.) scored two goals each and freshman Julie Robida (West Hartford, Conn.) added a goal and three assists Wednesday evening, leading Plymouth State University to a 10-2 victory over Smith College in a women’s ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
PSU won for the fourth time in its last five outings, improving to 7-5 overall. The Pioneers dropped to 5-8 overall.
The Panthers scored three goals in the first two minutes of the game, and held a 4-0 lead after one period. Smith got on the board five minutes into the second stanza, but PSU had an 8-1 advantage after two periods and easily skated home with the win.
Other goal scorers for Plymouth State included senior Kelly Williams (Canaan, N.H.), freshmen Amanda Kreamer (Lynn, Mass.) and Ursula Volosevich (South Boston, Mass.), and sophomores Molly Perron (Hartland, Vt.) and Holly Winchell (Atkinson, N.H.). Williams leads the team in scoring with 12 goals and 13 assists in 11 games.
Sophomore Caitlin Hammill and junior Danielle Morello each scored a goal for the Pioneers.
Both teams used two goaltenders. PSU freshman Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) started and made seven saves, and sophomore Katie Barany (MIddlesex, Vt.) made her first appearance in goal, making four stops. Freshman Shannon Comisky and sophomore Amanda Taus combined to make 22 saves for Smith.
Plymouth State returns to the ice Saturday with another home game against Mount Holyoke (1:00 p.m.)
