NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The first-year Plymouth State University’s women’s ice hockey team was defeated by a more experienced Norwich University team Tuesday evening, 11-2, at Kreitzberg Arena.
The hosts jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the middle of the second period and coasted home with the win. Norwich also defeated PSU 12-2 earlier this season. The Cadets improve to 6-7 overall while PSU dropped to 1-4.
Freshman Sarah Teed (Ulverton, Que.) and senior Holly Manning (Northfield, Vt.) led the Cadets with three goals and one assist apiece, while junior Danielle Rupert (Massena, N.Y.) and freshman Amanda Gage (St. Albans, Vt.) added two goals each. Manning is a former All-American at the University of Southern Maine.
Plymouth State got on the scoreboard with a pair of third-period goals. Freshman Holly Winchell (Atkinson, N.H.) broke the shutout at the 3:45 mark with her first goal of the season, with assists from junior Angela Potvin (Augusta, Maine) and freshman Katelyn Quint (Conway, N.H.). Junior Kelly Williams (Canaan, N.H.) added her first of the season eight minutes later with an unassisted tally.
Freshman Ashley Haverly (Washington, Conn.) played well in her first appearance in the Panther goal. Junior Elyce Bonnell (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for the Cadets.
The Panthers return to action Friday at Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. (7:00 p.m.)
