WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Forward Cubby Jackson (Akwesesne, N.Y.) scored the only goal of the game midway through the second period Wednesday evening to lead North Country Community College to a 1-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a women’s college hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
It was an evenly played game, with Plymouth State registering a 31-28 advantage in shots on goal. Jackson scored the only goal at the 11:00 mark of the second period, with assists from Micaela Crowningshield (Elizabethtown, N.Y.) and Leslie Cook (Hogansburg, N.Y.)
The Saints, who are from Saranac Lake, N.Y., finished with an eighth place national ranking last year and represent the only community college in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
PSU sophomore goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) made 27 saves, while NCCC goalie Chantel Johnston (Bombay, N.Y.) stopped 31 shots. The Panthers pulled DeLorie in the final minute for an extra skater but couldn’t score the tying goal.
Plymouth State, 1-4-0 overall and 0-3-0 in varsity games, host Oswego State in a weekend doubleheader. Saturday’s game will be at 5:00 p.m. at Laconia Ice Arena, and Sunday’s contest is at 1:00 p.m. at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
