PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women’s lacrosse team will make its sixth consecutive post-season appearance this week after receiving an invitation Monday to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Tournament.
The Panthers drew the No. 2 seed in this year’s tournament, and will host seventh-seeded Lasell College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Arold Field. The tournament’s semifinals are Saturday at the sites of the two highest remaining seeds, and the championship game is slated for Sunday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Endicott College (13-4) is the tournament’s top seed and receives a first-round bye. The other opening round contests on Wednesday include third-seeded University of New England (10-6) hosting sixth-seeded Rhode Island College (8-6), and fourth-seeded Keene State College (8-8) entertaining fifth-seeded New England College (9-7). The PSU-Lasell winner will face the UNE-RIC winner in one semifinal on Saturday, with Endicott hosting the KSC-NEC winner in the other semifinal.
PSU, 10-5 overall, earned an invitation after winning the Little East Conference regular season championship under first-year head coach Paula Habel. The Panthers advanced to the LEC Tournament championship game, where they were upset by Eastern Connecticut.
Lasell, 7-5 overall, finished third in the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance during the regular season and was eliminated from the NEWLA Tournament in the semifinals.
This will be Plymouth State’s fourth appearance in the ECAC post-season tournament. PSU first participated in the event in 1984, and then competed in 2002 and 2003, winning the championship in 2003. The Panthers also made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2000, 2001, and 2004.
