POTSDAM, N.Y. – Plymouth State University’s women’s soccer team gave a solid effort but dropped a 1-0 decision to Saint Lawrence University Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Lotto North Country Classic, hosted by Clarkson University.
Oswego State blanked Clarkson in the opening game of the tournament, also by a 1-0 count. The tournament continues Sunday with PSU facing Clarkson at 1:00 p.m. and Oswego State battling St. Lawrence at 3:30 p.m.
Freshman Lauren Sischo picked up her first collegiate goal for St. Lawrence late in the first half when she scored in front on a pass from classmate Caitlin Quinn at the 38:16 mark. St. Lawrence controlled play over PSU with a 15-3 advantage in shots and a 6-0 hold in corner kicks.
Despite the Saints play, Plymouth State enjoyed some solid chances at the close of play, but could not convert to tie the score. Carly Draper made two saves for the shutout for St. Lawrence while senior Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) made eight stops in net for the Panthers.
