NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Sophomore Kelsey McBride (Brookline, N.H.) scored her second goal of the season midway through the first half Saturday afternoon, and Plymouth State University held on to register a 1-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the Little East Conference women’s soccer opener for both schools.
McBride, who tallied the only goal a week ago in a 1-0 Panther triumph over Saint Joseph’s College, finished off a play at the 25:39 mark of the first half Saturday. Junior Kelli Langran (Sea Isle City, N.J.) and sophomore Krista Pettrey (Northfield, Vt.) collected assists on the goal for PSU.
Neither team was able to score the rest of the way as the game was played in a rainstorm.
PSU junior keeper Beth McAloon (Bedford, N.H.) recorded 10 saves to post her first shutout of the season. UMD keeper Amanda Tavares finished with one save.
The Panthers, 4-1-0 overall and 1-0 in the LEC, return home to host Bowdoin in a non-conference affair Tuesday evening (7:00 p.m.) at Panther Field. UMD drops to 3-1-0 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
