BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore Heather Fredette (Westminster, Mass.) scored 30 seconds into the second half Wednesday afternoon to help the Bridgewater State College women’s soccer team salvage a 1-1 tie with the undefeated Panthers of Plymouth State University.
Plymouth State (3-0-1) broke a scoreless tie in the 36th minute when freshman Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season off a corner kick. PSU held the 1-0 lead the remainder of the half.
Bridewater State (1-2-1) responded quickly to start the second half as Fredette scored her third of the season off a feed from classmate Jennifer Brogan (Waltham, Mass.). Fredette has scored all three of the Bears’ goals this season. BSC senior Kim Rhodes (Marshfield, Mass.) nearly broke the tie near the end of regulation, but her shot sailed inches high and struck the crossbar.
The two goalies played very well throughout the game. Bridgewater State senior Maura Cacciatore (Waltham, Mass.) made seven saves, while her counterpart, sophomore Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.), made nine saves on the afternoon.
Both teams will be back in action this Saturday. Bridgewater travels to Babson for an 11:00 a.m. game, while PSU returns home to host UMass Dartmouth in the Little East Conference opener at 4:00 p.m.
