CASTLETON, Vt. – The Plymouth State University women’s tennis team improved its overall record to 7-3 Thursday afternoon with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Castleton State College.
The Panthers were without several players due to their class schedules, but used team depth to pull out the victory over the Spartans, who dropped to 6-4 overall.
Sophomore Jill Deyermond (Atkinson, N.H.) and senior Rachel Xavier (Meredith, N.H.) moved up to the top two spots in the line-up and were double winners for the Panthers. The two captured the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively, and combined to win the No. 1 doubles match.
Junior Kiley Boyd (Brattleboro, Vt.) and sophomore Briley Boisvert (Goffstown, N.H.) also registered singles victories for PSU at No. 4 and 5, respectively. Boisvert teamed up with freshman Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H.) for a win at No. 2 doubles.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season this Saturday with a Little East Conference match against Western Connecticut (11:00 a.m.) in the final home contest of the year. PSU, 5-1 in LEC matches this season, will be out to defend its conference title at this year’s LEC Championships next weekend, Oct. 14-15, at Western Conn.
